My comics arrived today! Woo! Gonna be reading them over the new year, so that's excellent.

The Filth is really nicely put together, I really like how they did it. The actual paper, though it's a trade, is that nice pulp-like paper, rather than glossy, so that's awesome. The two Hanks books are HUGE, the paper feels a bit gritty, but it's not pulp, more like a mix. Still, quite nice.

I'm really looking forward to reading these!

EDIT // Jan 04

Okay, so let's get a little recap up here.

The Filth
It took a ridiculously long time to get me interested reading this. Maybe because I started reading while I wasn't feeling all that well, but I really wasn't all that impressed. It took, honestly, until chapter 07 (nearly halfway!) for me to be really into the story and to want to continue reading the whole thing out of interest's sake.

That said, the second half is really great stuff, if the whole thing was like that, or if at least it didn't take so long to get interesting/establish the basics/whathaveyou, I'd be a lot more pleased with this as a whole.

So, took a chance on this, and I guess I can say I'm glad I did. But in all honesty, if I had paid the full price for this I'd be slightly pissed.

I Shall Destroy All The Civilized Planets! & You Shall Die By Your Own Evil Creation!
Oh, golden age! This collection of comics is really quite amusing. There are stories from about 6 different characters in these books. My favorite? Big Red McLane, King of the Northwoods. He is a Canadian ginger lumberjack whose power is, basically, that he is ultra manly. Superb.

The rest of them are plain ol' superheroes. For what it is, an incredibly standard superhero motif, the stories still manage to have a bit of originality to them. I love that each criminal is given a punishment that is relative to their crime, at times in a slightly bizarre way.

There's not all that much to say, these are good, simple, light-hearted reads that will probably be something I'll turn to when I'm in a bad mood. If I'd paid full price I wouldn't have been disappointed with what I got.
