'Twas BEAUTY...

Just finished watching the new King Kong movie (late, I know). Personally, I didn't really think it was that great. Wasn't anything special. The special effects were impressive yes, but there was a lot of... filler. And other stuff that didn't really need to be there. I'm glad they set it in the 30's though, very nice. I'm also VERY glad for all the nods to the original version.
I really like the way Jack Black portrayed the character of Carl Denham. Naomi Watts was good. Adrien Brody... I like him, but he wasn't fantastic. There were WAY too many extras. I mean, "Jimmy"?! He wasn't needed AT ALL. Sorry, mister "Wake Me Up When September Ends". You weren't good in the video, and you weren't good in this movie. I also wasn't really buying the whole "wise black man" character. For the time period, they were kinda lenient with the whole racial thing. I mean, if it were really 1933, they wouldn't be worried at all about the Chinese guy who was gonna fall off the log, and they sure as hell wouldn't be giving the black guy half the attention/respect he recived. There was a lot of time spent developing the characters, but they weren't that likeable. Ann seemed really stuck up and self centered. The relationship between Ann and Kong is a lot more developed, but also, a tad too creepy.
It was, all in all, decent. I love the original [1933] version so much more.
Anyway. I handed in my resume, so if I'm hired, I'll probably be getting a call in the next couple days. Hurrah.
